We just got another report from the surgical nurse (Judi) and things are progressing well. They have attached the spared valve to the bottom of the graft and they are now working on reattaching the left & right coronary arteries. Once that is complete, they will attach the graft to the ascending aorta, then restart the heart, inspect everything and begin the process of closing him up.
I have attached a couple of pictures that I found online of a similar valve sparing procedure, but just to clarify.....these are NOT pictures of Luke's heart. This will give you an idea of how delicate this part of the procedure is.
